Another victim of Truvada

Michael Lujano and Jonathan C. Gary took Truvada and Atripla for several years. In May 2018, they filed their lawsuit in California state court.

Lujano took Truvada from 2004 to 2009. Then, he took Atripla from 2009 to 2015. At the age of 35, doctors diagnosed him with osteopenia and osteoporosis of the spine, neck and hip.

Gary took Truvada from 2001 until 2011. Doctors diagnosed him with Fanconi syndrome and osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Gilead tried to have the case dismissed, but in Feb 2019, Judge Carolyn B. Kuhl allowed the claims to continue on all actions except strict liability. The case will proceed on negligence and breach of warranty claims.

On May 10, 1988, at the annual meeting of the American Society of Microbiology in Miami, he told an audience that HHV-6 had been found along with HIV in T-4 cells, and speculated that the new herpes virus could be a "co-factor" in AIDS. One month later, at an international AIDS conference in Stockholm, he explained that HHV-6 killed T-4 cells in the test tube more effectively than did HIV, and said the new herpes virus could cause massive cell death. Here, we focus on the possible role of herpesviruses as contributing factors in HERV activation. We demonstrate the ability of HSV-1, HHV-6, and VZV antigens to induce higher RT activity in peripheral lymphocytes from MS patients vs. controls during the first 6 days post-antigen stimulation. On subsequent days, only VZV can sustain the increase in the RT expression in cells from MS patients. The RT induction does not depend on herpes replication.
